It's no secret that automobile valves are made of good quality steel, so they are an excellent material for the manufacture of various useful home-made products that will definitely come in handy in the garage and home workshop. Consider three uses for automotive valves.
Punch
Clamp the valve in a vice and use a grinder to cut off the hat. Then we sharpen the end of the steel rod under the cone, pre-clamping it in the drill chuck. To make it easy to hold a home-made center punch in your hand, we put a heat shrink tube on it.
Using this useful tool, you can core both soft metal workpieces (aluminum, copper, etc.), as well as steel plates 2-3 mm thick. At the same time, the punch itself is strong enough - it will not be dull after the first blow.
Chisel
In this case, the car valve head does not need to be cut off - it is enough to simply cut off most of it from the four sides with a grinder and grind it, so that in the end a chisel is formed. We put on a shrink tape.
Despite the small size, using such a home-made chisel, it is possible to cut steel wire with a diameter of 3-7 mm without any problems. Moreover, almost no nicks appear on the blade.
- Screwdriver
A small piece of steel bar is welded to the valve, then the edges of the cap are cut off on both sides using a grinder. The other end of the valve is ground under the hexagon. The result was a simple but reliable screwdriver - with its help, you can easily and quickly unscrew and tighten the bolts, the cap of which has a recess under the hexagon.
