Manually using an electric drill, it is practically impossible to drill a large number of holes in wooden (and even more so metal) workpieces, so that they are not only drilled with the same depth, but also are strictly vertical relative to the plane of the workpiece.

For this purpose, drilling machines are used. However, not everyone can afford this machine - really high-quality models are not cheap. Therefore, for many craftsmen, the best option is to make a home-made drilling machine based on an electric drill.

And in the home-made design of the drilling machine, you can use a cable drive - this method of adjustment mechanism is quite simple to implement in practice. To do this, you need a cable of suitable length, a drum on which it will be wound, and brackets for fastening.

The main stages of work

In the upper part of the drilling machine is attached a device for tightening (lanyard). A piece of steel plate with a hole is fastened from below, through which the end of the cable is threaded. To fix the cable, you can use special brackets or aluminum "sleeves", which are then crimped with a special tool.

Then we wind part of the cable onto the drum, in the role of which the helm shaft acts. It will be enough to make 5-6 turns. After that, we attach the free end of the cable to the lanyard hook. On this, the drill height adjustment mechanism is ready. Please note that the cable must be in tension.
