In the workshop or garage in the process, a stationery knife with a segment blade is often used. Here are just a plastic blade retainer in such knives often leaves much to be desired.

There are various options for how to solve this problem. For example, in this review, the author proposed his own option - to make an alternative to a clerical knife from more reliable and durable materials.

The author decided to use a thick-walled tube made of aluminum as the body of the homemade product. On a drilling machine it will be necessary to drill a hole in it. And to make the hole more or less even, it is better to drill the tube from two sides.

Moreover, on one side of the aluminum tube, you need to drill a hole to a depth of 50 mm with a diameter of 11 mm, and on the other, already with a diameter of 7 mm. If there is no drilling machine at hand, you can do with an electric drill.

The main stages of work

Next, the master drills two holes with a diameter of 4 mm in the tube, between which it is necessary to make a groove. First, in a straight line, and then additionally it will still be necessary to make two branches on each side.

In the process of milling aluminum tubes, the master uses oil for sewing machines. The master makes a cutting knife from a piece of high-speed steel.

The knife itself needs to be inserted into the holder made of the tail of the drill on wood. But you can use a piece of steel bar or bolt with a diameter of 10 mm for this.

At the last stage, it remains only to assemble a homemade knife from prepared parts. For details on how to make a worthy alternative to an ordinary clerical knife, we recommend that you look in the video on our website.
