On metal handles of bench tools, gauge handles, as well as other parts (mainly cylindrical), there is often a corrugated surface. This is done on purpose - so that the instrument fits comfortably in your hands.

Roll such notches on the parts and workpieces is not difficult at home. To do this, you can use a homemade hand tool, which is designed for knurling corrugations.

To make this device you will need a piece of a round pipe, a steel plate, a square bar, a strip of metal, as well as knurled rollers (three pieces). To connect the parts, the author uses welding.

The main stages of work

The first step is to cut off two pieces of a rectangular-shaped plate and drill into them two holes for the bolts.

Then you will need to make a triangular cut in each of the blanks using a grinder (angle grinder) or drill. At the edges of two plates, the author welds two more pieces of metal (you can also use pieces of a square bar).

Between two steel plates, the author installs two knurled rollers with notches, and fixes them with bolts and nuts.

Tool assembly

At the next stage, it will be necessary to cut off a piece of a round pipe and a billet of steel round timber that would enter this pipe. You will also need a small segment of the stud, from which the master makes another part.

Next, from small pieces of metal, a seat is made under the third knurling roller, which must be welded to a steel bar. On the other side of the round log with a grinder, a slot is made under the stud.

Then the rest of the parts are made. All workpieces are welded together. At the last stage, a wooden handle is made. It can be varnished or mineral oil.
