I want to make a reservation right away that this is not an advertisement for Coca-Cola digging. This is a puzzle that you can do and amaze your friends, give them a chance to “brainwash” and think about how this could be done. Of course, you will tell them that this is magic, and they, in turn, will throw their guesses about how this arrow pierced the bottle and got stuck there. An arrow stuck in a bottle without seams, without tears, is not glued. This will not give your friends a chance to solve this puzzle.
Of course, reading this article, most likely, you yourself do not yet know how this is done, but believe me - everything is simpler than it seems.
So let's get started. We will need:
- - Glass bottle.
- - A small piece of board.
From the tools:
- - Drill or drilling machine.
- - Band saw or jigsaw.
- - Sander.
- - Clips.
- - Diamond drills.
- - Diamond flat files.
And further:
- - Boiling water.
- - Acetone.
Choosing a tree for an arrow.
There are special requirements for the tree. I took a piece of pine from an old bed. Before cutting the arrow, you need to pay attention to where the layers of the tree go. Arrow in length should be cut parallel to these layers. Otherwise, in the future, the wooden arrow will be unevenly pressed or even delaminated. See the photo.

We print on the scale you need. We take the wood and apply the printout to the bar and glue it with some water-soluble terminals. Better starch.
We cut it on a tape machine or with the help of other tools that you have.
Our arrow turned out.
Now grind.
We remove all burrs and drawing paper.
It is advisable to make several of these arrows, because squeezing the arrow from the first try may not always succeed. So we insure in advance.
Time to boil our arrows.
We take arrows, we fix them in the device. And boil for 45 minutes. After that, the wood will become soft and will be well pressed.
Clamp in tees and slowly begin to compress the arrowhead. Here is the first failure: the arrow cracked. We make another attempt until the arrow is compressed to the smallest possible size. We measure the distance between the vise cups and remember. We leave the arrow in this state for 72 hours to dry. You can try it in 24 hours, but if the boom begins to recover after being unclenched, it pinches it back and let it dry further.
Prepare the bottle.
Take acetone or another solvent and remove the marking from the neck. It is up to you to remove the label. I decided not to delete.
Preparing the bottle for drilling.
Before starting to drill a bottle, we need to make a device in which the bottle will hold firmly and not vibrate. Otherwise, it may crack when drilling.
I made devices from unnecessary pieces of wood. Simple, I think, does not need an explanation, see photo.
Also, we need a container, because we will perform all glass manipulations in water. Here is a form I made friends on a 3D printer. Of course, not the best use of a 3D printer, but still.
Before you start drilling a bottle, it's time to think about safety. Be careful when handling glass. Use protective glasses and gloves without fail.
Getting down. Set the bottle in the fixture. We mark the place of drilling on both sides with a permanent marker. Pour cold water into the mold.
We drill a diamond head, carefully, at a speed of about 1000 rpm. Drilled on one side - turn over to the other and drill.
Further, without removing the bottles from the water with a diamond file, we cut out a rectangular hole for our arrow from under the press. On both sides.
After completing all the manipulations, drain the water and rinse the bottle again, removing all glass chips. Especially from the inside of the bottle.
We insert our arrow into the sawn holes.
We put the compressed end of the arrow in boiling water. Minutes for 10. This should be enough, as the arrow will quickly assume its original state.
Everything, pull out and let dry.
Now you can show off to friends and acquaintances.
There is another option to make a puzzle with two arrows.
To do this, you need to do an intermediate option with boiling the first arrow in the bottle. And so everything is simple. The truth is the difficulty of cutting a hole in the arrow and a high probability that the arrow will crack when pressed. But the result will be simply amazing. For this, you can get confused and work hard for more.
